Indonesian Idyll: The Pulse of Balangan Beach
2013
60×40 inches
10500$
Over a decade ago, during the year I lived in Bali, I captured a photograph that enshrined the untouched beauty of Balangan Beach. This hidden gem in the Uluwatu area was then a secret known mostly to locals and a select group of surfers. As the sun neared the horizon, the sky unfolded in a mesmerizing dance of deep blues, casting a tranquil hue over the sea’s boundless embrace. Towering cliffs stood as silhouetted guardians over the secluded sands, where only a few footprints hinted at the sparse visitors who cherished its serenity. Each wave that kissed the shore seemed to pulse with a rhythmic life, echoing the very soul of this Indonesian refuge.
Fast forward to today, and the scene at Balangan Beach stands in stark contrast to what I witnessed and captured. The once-pristine beach, previously undiscovered by the masses, has since seen the rise of constructions and luxury hotels. Its secret allure is now widely known and forever altered. However, my photograph remains a poignant reminder of a time of serene solitude, an evocative tribute to the untouched embrace of nature that once defined this beautiful spot during my year in Bali.
